Mike DeRubeis

Mike is a licensed Structural Engineer with experience ranging from new construction of high-rise residential, medical office buildings, educational, data center structures and existing building repairs and retrofits. Mike brings a broad range of structural design, construction phase, and project management experience to Forell | Elsesser. He also provides expert knowledge of reinforced concrete and post-tensioned concrete design and construction.

Mike is a leader in communication, bringing about a collaborative design team dynamic on the projects he works on. As a mentor to younger engineers, Mike fosters strategies to assist in developing skills to meet their career goals. Mike is a licensed Structural Engineer in Hawaii and a licensed Professional Engineer in Colorado and Virginia. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and his Master’s degree from the University of Kansas.

In his free time, Mike enjoys spending time with his family, downhill skiing, camping, and cat lap cuddles.

Maya Rao

As a Structural Designer at Forell | Elsesser, Maya is eager to make a positive impact on the built environment. Maya received her Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota and her Master’s in Structural Engineering from Stanford University. Maya has a diverse academic background and her interests extend far beyond structural engineering. She is passionate about the building industry as a whole, completing a minor in architecture, and pursuing classes and research in the areas of urban systems, sustainable materials, air pollution, and human well-being throughout her graduate education. Her undergraduate research focused on the dynamic behavior of concrete under varying environmental conditions.

Outside of work, Maya loves to read and enjoys many forms of art and music which she has pursued through membership in dance and a capella teams.
