Joining Forell/Elsesser in 2002, Steve is a Principal and a California licensed Structural Engineer with more than 20 years of experience. His comprehensive approach to solving technical issues includes balancing cost, schedule, and constructability. This requires close collaboration with the design and construction team, knowing that the obvious solution may not be the optimal solution.
Steve’s primary area of expertise is working with advanced seismic systems to protect buildings from damage during a major earthquake. He has managed or consulted on many of Forell/Elsesser’s base isolated projects over the last decade including the retrofit of Pasadena City Hall and the new UCSF Ray & Dagmar Dolby Regeneration Medicine Building. Steve is knowledgeable in the new construction of commercial, educational, laboratory, healthcare, and parking structures. He has also provided structural engineering plan review and peer review services for a wide variety of projects and clients. Steve received a Bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and a Master’s degree from UC Berkeley.
When not working on a project, Steve enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, and enjoying good food.
