Forell Elsesser contributed structural engineering expertise to the historic renovation and expansion of Mayo Hall at Cal Maritime’s Vallejo campus in California. Originally the university’s first building, Mayo Hall underwent a substantial transformation, with non-historic additions removed to accommodate a contemporary extension. The central “Concourse” now serves as a nexus for student services, while the former gym has been repurposed to house multipurpose rooms and student services. The natatorium retains its vibrancy with student life spaces, and Health Services features its discrete entrance. Mayo Hall’s redesign accentuates communal areas like the Wall of Honor, preserving its rich history and serving as a draw for prospective cadets.
