Customized Solution
Adaptive re-use of an existing 5 story + basement office building to become a Risk Category IV building that will serve as the new BART Police Headquarters. The project utilizes non-linear analysis and a viscous damper system to provide the higher performance to the existing building. The first-floor diaphragm was strengthened using Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) coating and a horizontal structural steel truss where forces are high. The building is also located adjacent to an existing BART tunnel, which incurs challenges to avoid additional loading. The foundation system was reinforced using micropiles for additional capacity and designed to tie into the existing foundation system. This project is currently under construction, with an anticipated opening date in Mid 2026.
