NCSEA Foundation Diversity in Structural Engineering Scholarship Awarded

F|E is excited to announce Geraldine Lynch as the recipient of our 2024 NCSEA Foundation Diversity in Structural Engineering Scholarship!

F|E is excited to announce Geraldine Lynch as the recipient of our 2024 NCSEA Foundation Diversity in Structural Engineering Scholarship! This year, there were over 140 applicants from across the US, and a total of 25 scholarships were awarded, totaling over $70K.

Geraldine was selected to receive the FORELL ELSESSER scholarship for her academic achievements, internships, extra curricular involvement, and for her passion for structural engineering and commitment to diversity and inclusion. Geraldine is a rising senior in civil engineering at CSU Chico, and wants to pursue a Master’s degree in structural engineering following her Bachelor’s.

It is such an honor to have been chosen for this scholarship and I’d like to give a huge thank you to the committee involved in this process. I am so excited to continue my education with your support and further network in the future!

Introducing Geraldine Lynch:
Geraldine Lynch is a first-generation college student currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. She began her academic journey at Santa Rosa Junior College, earning associate degrees in engineering and mathematics before transferring to California State University, Chico in 2022. On campus, Geraldine is actively engaged in leadership roles, serving as the President of Chi Epsilon, the Civil Engineering Honors Society, and holding the position of Publicity Chair in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). She has been a dedicated member of the Concrete Canoe team for two years, where her involvement has provided valuable hands-on experience. Geraldine looks forward to assuming the role of Project Manager for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Throughout her academic career, Geraldine has enhanced her learning through internships and research. Her research project, titled “The Influence of Building Damage Prediction Models on Regional Scale Seismic Risk Estimates,” conducted with the NHERI SimCenter, has significantly shaped her interest in seismic resilience.
